THE GUIDE – HAWAII’S BEST BEACHES

Hawaii boasts over 400 beaches, all of them public, making it a perfect paradise. Some are deserted, some are full of people relaxing or with people out in the waves, catching that famous Hawaiian surf. Here are some of our favourites….

  • Waikiki Beach, Oahu

The world famous Waikiki beach is actually made up of nine individual beaches, spanning over two miles. If you’re a novice when it comes to surfing but would like to give it a try, this is a good place to start as the surf is relatively gentle.

  • Po’ipu Beach, Kauai

A perfect spot for snorkelling, swimming and surfing, along a series of golden crescents. You can also find some good fishing excursions offered or sunset sails.

  • Ka’anapali Beach, Maui

This is one of Hawaii’s most popular beaches, with crystal clear waters perfect for snorkelling and a whole range of other watersports on offer, such as kayaking or windsurfing. It’s the perfect spot for a beachfront walk and there is even a shopping village if you want to take a break from the sand.

  • Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, Hilo

This black sand beach is a sanctuary for Green Sea Turtles and you will often get the chance to see one lying in the sun on the beach, just make sure you don’t touch! The shoreline can be rocky, so water shoes are recommended.

  • Hapuna Beach State Park

This half-mile crescent shaped beach is one of the most popular state parks in Hawaii, which picnic areas and restaurants for you to sit back and watch the surfers to their thing or if you’re a golfer, there is an excellent course at the end of the beach.
