Things to Do in Denmark

Explore the buzzing capital

Copenhagen is a capital city bursting with culture and colours, offering a wonderful blend of state-of-the-art architecture, an extensive network of bike lanes, and historical landmarks. The buzzing city is known for its Little Mermaid statue that is based upon the character from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy-tale, as well as the action-packed Tivoli Gardens, which is one of the world’s oldest amusement parks! Whilst here, take the time to explore the Ragnarok Museum which is dedicated to Danish music, admire the canal-front colourful buildings in Nyhavn district, and why not check out the delicate porcelain products that Copenhagen is internationally renowned for?

Witness the springtime cherry blossoms

Looking for an ideal spot to see the pink burst of cherry blossoms beyond Japan? Denmark is popular for its beautiful springtime blossoms! Bispebjerg Cemetery is a hotspot for viewing these stunning spring flowers, featuring tree-lined avenues filled with bowing pink-hued branches forming an arc over your head! Or celebrate the Japanese culture at Langelinie Park, hosting the annual Copenhagen Sakura Festival. Experience local workshops, embrace the calm with a Japanese tea ceremony, or admire people wearing the traditional kimono, all whilst witnessing the cherry blossoms in full bloom!

Soak up arts and nature in Skagen

Idyllically positioned where the Baltic and North seas meet, Skagen is an exciting coastal town on the northernmost tip of Denmark! Skagen is a place of limitless inspiration, boasting masterpieces in Skagen Museum by the Skagen Painters, galvanized by the town’s extraordinary light and dramatic landscapes. Be sure to visit the Skagen Bunker Museum, provisioning an insight into the town’s wartime history.  Beyond the artistic and cultural heritages and mesmerising landscapes, this charming port town offers awe-inspiring coastal scenery and sandy shores for soaking in nature and fresh sea air.

Get a taste of sun-kissed island life in Bornholm

Enjoy remote island life on a Danish island in the Baltic Sea off the eastern coast of Denmark and the southern coast of Sweden. Bornholm prides itself as the sunniest part of Denmark, offering the most sunshine hours in the country! Set in the northern part of Bornholm are the centuries-old clifftop ruins of Hammershus, providing sweeping views of the entire island! The romantic market town of Rønne is arguably the prettiest place in the island, famed for its half-timbered houses, long-standing pottery traditions and delicious Mediterranean delights… Bornholm is truly an island brimming with sunshine and serenity!

Explore the world’s smallest big city

Tiny in size, big in experience! Aarhus is one of the world’s smallest big cities, steeped with renowned cultural attractions, world-beating museums and Instagram-worthy sights! Begin your exploration in the city’s iconic harbour, one of the biggest and busiest ports in Northern Europe, and then wander around Den Gamle By, the old town open-air town museum featuring over 75 historic buildings and boutique shops. Aarhus is also home to the cobbled Latin Quarter, lined with colourful buildings, chic cafes, cultural venues and delightful museums including the Women’s Museum!

Denmark Cruises FAQs

What are the best months to visit Denmark?

Generally, the best time to visit Denmark is in the spring or summer, between May and August, for pleasant weather conditions and longer daylight hours. These two seasons are the prime time for exploring the outdoors and sightseeing, as well as basking on the beaches! Spring is also an ideal time for seeing cherry blossoms in Copenhagen, whilst you can consider winter cruises if you want to experience the Christmas markets and the ‘hygge’ culture!

Is Denmark good for the Northern Lights?

Whilst the more popular destinations for the Northern Lights are the neighbouring countries like Norway and Sweden, it’s also possible to view this spectacular phenomenon in Denmark’s northern parts during specific times of the year.  Set on the northernmost part of Denmark, Grenen in Skagen is one of the best spots for viewing the magical display! Thy National Park is another excellent place for the rare aurora sightings. Other locations you can try are the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark set between Iceland and Norway, as well as Kjul Strand on the outskirts of Hirtshals and the island of Samso.

What are the things to do in Copenhagen?

Nyhaven, the 17th-century waterfront, greets travellers as soon as they arrive in Copenhagen  – where colourful buildings line the canal like a postcard straight out of a fairytale. The majestic Rosenborg Castle is another of those fairytale-perfect places, featuring turrets, moats and a story of treasure, and the world-famous Tivoli Gardens is the entertainment hub for visitors of all ages! Be sure to check out Copenhagen's iconic Little Mermaid statue, who quietly watches over the harbour, as you come near the dock!
