Explore the Best of Bahrain

The Island Kingdom of Bahrain is a gem in the Persian gulf, steeped in beautiful beaches and rich culture and history. In Arabic, its name meaning ‘two seas’, refers to the presence of freshwater springs emerging from the saltwater ocean. Manama is the modern capital and main port of Bahrain, serving as an ideal starting base for the ultimate island nation exploration – where glass-clad skyscrapers tower above the ancient sites and traditional Arab markets, and vibrant nightlife takes the centre stage as the evening plays out.

Celebrated as the world’s premier location for natural pearls, Bahrain is home to a UNESCO-listed pearling trail that beautifully narrates the country’s storied pearling heritage. The island nation is also the first in the Middle East to host the Formula 1 Grand Prix, offering visitors a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the action-packed F1 race live. No visit to Bahrain is complete without visiting the Al Fateh Grand Mosque, known as one of largest and most beautiful mosques in the world, and the iconic Tree of Life that withstood the test of time for over 400 years!

Things to Do in Bahrain

Be in awe of the iconic Al Fateh Mosque

The Al Fateh Grand Mosque is one of the world’s largest mosques, spanning a whopping size of 6,500 square metres. Dominating the skyline of the capital, the worshipping place entices visitors with its architectural grandeur and spiritual significance. Its awe-inspiring facade is crowned with a stunning fiberglass dome and flanked by two striking minarets soaring into the sky. Upon entering the Indian teak-wood doors, guests can marvel at the ornate marble floors, the underside of the fiberglass dome, and the exquisite Kufic art adorning the walls.

Discover the historic Bahrain Fort

Wander around the ancient walls of Qal'at al-Bahrain or commonly known as Bahrain Fort, recognised by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. This archaeological site, featuring well-preserved ramparts and watchtowers, offers an in-depth insight into the daily life and trading system of the human civilizations that once lived and thrived in Bahrain. Strolling through the courtyards and halls, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the city and the surrounding area. Close to the fort, you can drop by a local museum, showcasing artefacts, interactive displays and informative panels.

Experience the Bahrain Grand Prix

Long before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Qatar Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix took the centre stage for Formula 1, Bahrain Grand Prix pioneered the first-ever Grand Prix in the Middle East, which was held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhi. Watching the spectacular evening Formula 1 race in Bahrain is truly a bucket-list experience for F1 aficionados and even for non-fans, where electrifying on-track action happens under the floodlights! Bahrain International Circuit is open year-round, so visitors can take guided tours and experience the off-road course even outside the F1 events.

Shop at a local souq

Get a taste of the authentic Arabian street life as you explore Bahrain’s souqs, brimming with stalls that sell handcrafted jewellery, fabric, spices, sweets, household items, souvenirs and art. Get ready to haggle and bargain for the best prices to complete your experience! Souqs are a traditional open-air marketplace of interconnected narrow alleys, packed with local stores, coffee shops, and eateries! Manama Souq is the oldest and the arguably the most popular souq in Bahrain, perfect for the ultimate shopping and dining galore!
